In 2005 VPRO Television, a Dutch public broadcast organisation, started the international version of its successful format Zomergasten (Summer Guests). The program features a renowned guest who shows and talks about his or her favorite television and film clips, and about his or her work and life. The international version is called Winter Guests.
 
For our first international season our guests were actor WILLEM DAFOE, writer JONATHAN SAFRAN FOER and German politician DANIEL COHN-BENDIT.
 
In winter 2006 we spoke to director DAVID LYNCH, rock star IGGY POP and managing director of Al Jazeera, WADAH KHANFAR.
 
In 2007 we invited American-Canadian journalist NAOMI KLEIN (No Logo, The Shock Doctrine), archbishop DESMOND TUTU and ex-chess champion and Russian opposition hero GARRY KASPAROV.
 
For 2008 we spoke to writer ISABEL ALLENDE, economist JEFFREY SACHS and philosopher TARIQ RAMADAN.
 
In 2009 we visited RORY STEWARD (36) whose life is already being filmed, DAVID SIMON known from television series "the Wire" and RAY KURZWEIL whose predictions all came true.
 
Because VPRO does not own the rights to all film- and televisionclips shown in the interview, we unfortunately cannot put a videostream of the entire programmes online. It is, however, possible to watch the interview parts online.
