Thingscon komt naar Eindhoven!

Deze editie behandelt de rol van het ontwerp van onze verbonden wereld ten opzichte van de slimme maatschappij, ook wel aangeduid als 'smart society'. De slimme stad wordt vaak benaderd vanuit het stedelijk niveau, met optimalisatie als drijfveer. Wat als we de burger als uitgangspunt nemen en hoe  je een samenleving kunt opbouwen in een stad als alles 'smart' wordt. Wat is de rol van de dingen van de stad? Deze editie is georganiseerd in nauwe samenwerking met VPRO Medialab.

Scott Smith

Scott Smith (US / NL) is de oprichter van Changeist, een laboratorium, onderzoek tank en consultancy bureau waar signalen van verandering worden geindentificeerd en onderzocht. Zijn werk is gebaseerd op meer dan 20 jaar ervaring in het bijhouden van sociale, culturele, technologische en economische trends, en het helpen van organisaties om te navigeren door complexe toekomsten. Voor de oprichting van Changeist, was Scott directeur onderzoekstoepassingen en futurist bij Social Technologies (nu Innovaro), een innovatief bedrijf, met visie op consumenten gedrag, sociale waarden en opkomende technologie. Daarvoor heeft hij een decennium lang onderzoek gedaan naar start-ups en was hij consulent voor internationale technologie onderzoeksbureaus in New York, Washington DC en Londen.

Thingscon comes to Eindhoven!

This July the 8th Thingscon Salon's fourth edition will be taken place in Eindhoven, Strijp-S. This edition - organised in close partnership with VPRO Medialab - touches the theme of the role of the design of our connected world in relation to the smart society. The smart city is often approached from the city level, with optimisation as driver. What if we take the citizen as starting point, and how to build a society in the city if everything becomes smart. What is role of the things of the city?

Thingscon Salon is a monthly focused event, organised by the team of Thingscon Amsterdam. Thingscon is a successful conference on the designing and making of the new connected things. 

Thingscon workshop

Friday 8 July consist of a Thingscon Workshop and a Thingscon Salon. This edition will host the Thingclash workshop set up by Scott Smith. Thingclash is a framework for considering cross-impacts and implications of colliding technologies, systems, cultures and values around the IoT. A lab project of Changeist, a foresight and innovation group, Thingclash will include tools and activities that can help researchers, designers, technologists, strategists, policy makers and others with an interest in this field find ways to think more clearly, comprehensively and long-term about how we create a livable IoT future for all.

Scott Smith (US/NL)is the founder of Changeist, a lab, research tank and consultancy created to identify and make sense of weak signals of change. His work is built on over 20 years’ experience tracking social, cultural, technological and economic trends, and helping organizations navigate complex futures. Before founding Changeist, Scott served as director of research applications and futurist at Social Technologies (now Innovaro), a foresight and innovation company, leading visioning around consumer lifestyles, social values and emerging technology. Prior to this, he spent a decade leading start-up research and consulting teams for international technology research firms in New York City, Washington, DC, and London.
