Te zien is hoe een groep mannen in een capsule met een kanon naar de maan wordt geschoten. Het is een stille film en de eerste science fiction film ooit. De film van Méliès werd losjes gebaseerd op ‘De la Terre à la Lune’ van Jules Verne en ‘The First Men in the Moon’ van H. G. Wells.
