Facebook houdt graag het imago van de duimpjes omhoog. Daarom hebben ze mensen als Sjarrel nodig. Dag in, dag uit kijkt hij in een afgrond vol haat.
Radiomaker Maartje Duin spreekt in VPRO Radio Doc de Nederlandse Sjarrel, die in Berlijn werkt als content moderator voor Facebook. Hij ziet onthoofdingen, kinderporno, bergen haat en racisme: zaken die artificial intelligence nog niet kan filteren.
Sjarrel krijgt het minimumloon en nauwelijks psychologische begeleiding. Toch gaat hij niet weg. ‘Jullie doen goed werk,’ hoort hij steeds. ‘Belangrijk werk. Jullie houden Facebook veilig.’
De radiodocumentaire bevat passages die als schokkend ervaren kunnen worden. De namen Tommy en Linda zijn gefingeerd.
